Anton Bukkens is a facility manager at the head office of the NIBC bank in The Hague. Anton manages the NIBC bank premises and the adjacent multi-tenant office buildings. These properties are known as The Zone. Anton does the maintenance of the buildings with an eye for the world and with a passion for sustainability. “Sustainability is in my blood,” says Anton Bukkens.

Care for the world

What does sustainability look like in practice for Anton Bukkens? Anton uses green energy as much as possible. He is proud of the energy label A and The Zone’s cooling system. What is so special about this cooling system? It is a cooling system based on groundwater. “On a hot summer day, the rooms are wonderfully cool, and the energy meter is at 0, then I am happy.”

Are you renting an office space in The Zone? Then Anton is ready for you. Anton gives you a tour of the building, thinks along with you about the renovation of the space and arranges a storage place for your belongings. Does the NIBC bank replace the partition walls in the offices, and do you need partition walls? Then you can reuse it for free.

Anton is currently working on a new lighting plan. In the plan, LED lighting will replace the current lighting. The material of the luminaires is made of corn. This makes the material biodegradable. New plans create practical challenges. By way of illustration, Anton explains that he must replace the transformer box. This does not go without a hit or a hit. The municipality is not cooperating, so Anton spends extra time on discussions with the municipality.

Partnership

“If the tenants are happy, then I am too.” How do you ensure satisfied tenants? Anton actively involves the tenants in changes to the building. As an example, Anton gives the renovation of the parking garage. On a Monday morning, he and his team were waiting for the tenants at the parking garage. He showed the design of the new garage to the tenants and asked: “What would an ideal parking garage look like to you?” Charging stations, LED lighting and driving out with license plate recognition are the result of this brainstorming moment.

Anton actively seeks contact with the tenants of The Zone. If you have a problem, Anton thinks along with you. Anton and the tenants are currently rolling out a company emergency response plan together. Organizing company emergency services is a challenge for smaller companies.

Would you like to see Anton’s sustainable solutions with your own eyes?

Then step into The Zone for a cup of coffee.
